Mount St. Helens revisited: Vancouver geologist and author to give talk about historic eruption (video)

May 18, 1980, was quite the memorable day for Northwesterners.

It’s the day Mount St. Helens blew its top, and one local geologist and author will give a talk about witnessing the eruption’s aftermath.

Richard Waitt, author of “In the Path of Destruction: Eyewitness Chronicles of Mount St. Helens,” works for the U.S. Geological Survey in Vancouver, Wash., and was one of the first to respond after the mountain let loose.

His talk will begin at 2 p.m. March 6 at Vintage Books, 6613 E. Mill Plain Blvd., Vancouver.

For more information, see the event page on the bookstore’s website. For more about the volcano and its eruption, check out the USGS video below.
